The State Government of Karnataka’s Road Authority(RA)conducts yearly traffic counts throughout the State of Karnataka. The surveys are undertaken to understand and forecast traffic growth, identify areas for road improvement, and make budget provisions for the coming financial year. Surveys are undertaken simultaneously at 2847 sites across the state for a continuous 48-hour period.
The Challenge
The challenging requirements prompted the Road Authority to appoint a company with sufficient resources, capability, experience, and knowledge at all levels, to successfully deliver a project of this size. DataCorp(DC) was commissioned to undertake the mammoth task of collecting traffic data at 2847 sites simultaneously for 2 days, processing, analysing, and delivering the Report within 2 weeks of onsite data collection.

Solution Provided
Meticulous planning, reliable technology, and experienced knowledgeable staff were key to the successful execution of a project of this size. Being resource-heavy on equipment and manpower required the close cooperation of the planning and operation teams together with support from the Technology and R&D teams.
A new camera system was designed, built, and tested to meet the needs of the data collection exercise. A detailed logistic plan was created to coordinate the movement of over 100 groups of Camera Technicians, Supervisors, Enumerators, and Camera Equipment to the various subdivisions within the State of Karnataka.
